Biocides
Biocides are used for the (treatment, removal) abatement of pests. Harmful or undesirable microorganisms, insects or also plants are eliminated or affected in their vital functions.
Biocides can be produced by chemical means (e.g. chlorine as the most often used bactericide) but also by microorganisms. Biotechnologically produced biocides are mostly secondary metabolites of microorganisms, which have the function to defend the environment and/or the existing nutrient offer against competitors. Examples are bactericides (effective against bacteria) or fungicides (directed against fungi).
